I cannot help with your problem, but you can probablly get better response with your problem in the subject line of your post- Most everybody here "would like some help".

Good luck with it , though.

I've edited your thread title to see if it will catch the attention of others who have had driver's window issues.

Intermittent faults are the worst. Troubleshooting a permanent fault is always so much easier!

Does your car have a sunroof? When you are having the driver door window problem, open the sunroof. Did I close by itself after a few seconds?

If so, what I am going to suggest sounds harebrained.

Disconnect the negative battery lead from the battery. Touch the lead (which only has the battery terminal clamp removed from the battery and is still attached to the car) to the positive battery post.

This is referred to as a "hard reset". It discharges the capacitors in the various control modules. Reconnect the negative battery cable. Did the problem go away?

When I had a problem with my driver's side window and was told to do this, I thought the poster was nuts, and yet it worked.

I have the same problem as well... My car is in the garage for the winter so I have problems simulating the intermittent problem.. I'm searching and testing and found nothing yet. Did the Hard Reset solve the problem for good or does it just restart the the window moving when it has stopped halfway?

I'm also having a similar problem with my 2000 xj8 vdp, driver window stops working out of nowhere and sunroof opens but closes on it's own after a few seconds. I was told to re boot the memory by grounding the positive with the negative for a few second, after I do that it all works fine but then it'll go back to the same problem after a few hours or a day. Plzzzz help someone!

Default Why the Hard Reset was not a Permanent fix?

That I do not know.

My suggestion is to disconnect the battery, locate the module for the windows, disconnect the connector, spray contact cleaner into both the contacts on the plug and the pins on the module. Likewise, disconnect the window switches and clean those contacts as well.

All of the circuits in these cars that have control modules are sensitive to corrosion on the electrical contacts. The corrosion on electrical contacts increases the resistance which is what I think starts the problem.

I have not had a repeat of the problem on my car since doing the hard reset.

Perhaps someone that is computer savvy can explain why the hard reset works and why it does not seem to be a permanent solution on your cars.

I planned on removing the door module to clean the contacts as you mentioned Mike. It is still another 6 weeks before I can ride again, winter and all...

A similar issue, the passenger seat back at times goes only so far back up then starts clicking. The forum gave me the tip to clean the contact of the seat module under the seat which I did. This had solved the problem but I have to redo this procedure every year. I will keep in touch with this side window issue... Thanks for the reply,,,

I had the same problem, every window working but the drivers side front, and a hard reset worked for me.

Ok, I finally figured out what was cousing this proem on my car and would like to share it with y'all. So I found out that the key hole on my door was getting stuck and it remained on global closing. So I decided to spray wd40 in the key hole and insert the key and unlock and lock a few times. After I deleted this a few times I notice when I would turn the key it was a lot smother and would spring back to the center right after turning the key. So after that procedure was done I did the hard reset one more time and it's been working perfect since then, and it's been a few weeks now so it would usually last a few hours before it started malfunctioning again. I'm so glad I solved this issue, I hope this helps someone out there.
