2000 XJR "restricted Performance" wont accel over 75mph
Considering buying a 2000 XJR. my only concern about the car other than a small door ding and headliner is that it occasionally gives the "Restricted Performance" and then wont accel over 75mph for several seconds.
Anyone know what could be the cause of this and how troublesome the fix might be? Coil packs maybe? The car has a lot going for it and the price/mileage is good. Purchase is hingent on the cost/pain factor of this problems fix Thank you kindly, Vaughn |
You will need to pull engine codes.

that is what i was afraid of. The car is 2 states away. Not sure I want to take a chance flying out if the codes fortell of a major issue.
Thanks for the reply |
i had a similar problem w my 2000 xj8---i went to my local checker auto (now www.oreillyauto.com) and they pulled the trouble codes for me at no charge--then, after some digging i determined the fix was a new airflow sensor...had to order from dealer, but it was a very easy fix though not cheap ($320)
do you know anyone you can trust nearby the seller? if you are serious about the car...you may wat to see if you can have someone get you the codes first. good luck! |
if the happens at or above 3000rpm your secondary fuel pump might be at fault..
also if the secondary fuel pump is beginning to fail you may have a slightly longer crank prior to start up |
My wife has an '02 XJR and the engine code is P1646 and has been hesitating and stalling as well.
The code indicates the Fuel Pump Relay 2 Failure. Where is the secondary fuel pump relay located? |
