So how much for my similarly equipped 01 XJR with only 40,000 miles?

I think with it having been a prototype before the full release of the 100 models makes it unique. The red stitching, missing door strips, unique badge and wheels all point towards it being a 100 but it isn’t. Which is interesting. Shame the Veneer has lost all its grey staining though.

I think his price is also relying heavily on it’s feature in The TV show, but it’s not like it was a good show. Prices are on the up though, but not that much.

I would not buy this over another 100 (or R) unless all things = and within <1k.

Luxury cars of this age are still "used cars" ..... 12-15k for perfect low mile XJR examples Above 70k mines --- nothing special.

I paid 12k for my extra R about two years -- 22k

More in line with reality ... maybe 10k. These are the cars to buy ....and end up being the cheapest in the long run. Has the most chance being original .. less stuff has been incorrectly replaced. They do tend to have been sitting in a garage -- so all the cosmetics are perfect.

Find one for 4-5k w/ 80k and in no time you have spent 4k fixing it .... for a few k more you have an instant, enjoyable car ..... the cheap one will never be as nice as this car.

I think the whole 'prototype asertion' makes the rest of the advert suspicious in my mind: All prototypes were destroyed at Whitley- usually around the 2 year mark.


This was upsetting to us young engineers

There were prototypes I'd become attached to- but, much like 'Charlottes Web' they were destined for the chopping block.


The only exception to that- was tax paid vehicles- like 'M698 GDU'- the white V12 I got very familiar with (which I hope is still knocking around somewhere!) and the Ultima kit cars they built up for the original Aston Martin middle engine Vantage prototypes- which I saw for sale years later!

More in-line with reality. And if no one shows up -- he will take 10k. I have seen them go for less. I'm always saying to myself -- buy it! But how many can I have?

The one for 24k is now advertised for 19+ ..... an auction site does bring more eyes and the possibility of higher prices .. but the costs make it a wash for the seller.

Although a few k one way or the other does not make a market.
