2002 fob work on 1999 XJ8?
I bought a used switchblade type key fob for my Jag. Successfully moved the key and security chip to the 02 but I'm not having success programming it to my car. Upon more research my alarm system may not work with the newer fob. True? If true, what are my options here? Can I replace the alarm system unit with a 2002 unit? I want a switchblade key fob so the only option is to move forward. No going back.
I'm comparing my old key fob to the newer one and I think I could perform surgery on the two and join them together seamlessly. New switch blade top and old fob bottom. This of course being a last resort, but very fun, solution
. I'm very good with my hands and can make just about anything. I'd prefer to use the OEM 2002 FOB but I'll do whatever it takes to make it work.

my understanding and personal experience tell me that pre 2000 and post 2000 models have different fobs.
because I got a older one and was not able to program ,then I asked the dealer mechanic told me about what I just mentioned.
anyone correct me if I was wrong.
