I need tires and I would like to get some Nankang tires. Heard good things, and like the looks and price. My car lists the factory size required as 255/40/18. Can I use a different size? I am not looking for a custom look...I just want a close to factory look for my tires

good question....I am just looking for an alternative that will look as close to factory as possible and to select a tire that wont affect performance negatively. I am wondering if there is another option without being so visible. I dont want a pimped look on this car.
The first two numbers are width and profile, so 255/40/18 is (255 wide/40% as tall/18 inch rim). You can play with the width and aspect/profile ratioa little, as long as you make sure the tire circumference stays the same as the factory specs (so your speedometer isn't off) and the width doesn't scrub the inner fender, etc. If you can't get specs for the circumference, make sure to check the total diameter or total tire height, usually if it iswithin a quarter of an inch or so you'll be fine (ride height, speedo accuracy, etc).
