Default '98 Vanden Plas Fuel Lines

Hi - '98 Venden Plas.
4.0L v8
none supercharged
US version in south west California
I am trying to get the smaller fuel line into the bottom of the fuel tank. I had to replace the fuel pump (single pump). When getting the tank out the small line came out. I have never used the connector (metal 4 prong) so I'm having a hard time understanding how they work. Does anyone have an exploded view of how to use them? Probably best if it was a side view ex-ray type picture or drawing. I found the excellent pdf on the complete r and r (I don't remember the author sorry) but still don't get exactly how the setup works.

Thank you
Harold

Are you saying that you pulled the tank with the lines still connected??
The risk of damaging the lines (that are NLA) is too great to try to 'horse' the tank into the boot area.

The result is probably what you are experiencing now.

good luck.

Thank you Bob for the reply. I didn't realize there were lines on the bottom of the tank. When I pulled the tank back enough to get to the top to replace the pump. The large line stayed connected but the small line disconnected itself. From me pulling etc. I didn't take the tank completely out.

It matters NOT at this point!!!
There are/were parts to repair the 1995-1997 XJ12 sedan and the parts MIGHT still be available or you might need to find a replacement tank. I don't know if the XJ12 parts are the same as the XJ6??? TSB 19-34 seems to verify that XJ40/XJ-S parts fit. The XJ8 tanks are similar to the X300 and the XJ40 in-tank pump models.

We were issued a TSB back about 20 something years ago regarding the repair. I have never needed to perform this procedure but I offer it as an alternative to tank replacement.

good luck

bob
