my 98xj8 (61k miles) fussed a little starting - had to pump the accelerator once - got going - every thing fine. Now, it starts then dies. The battery
is new, and it has fuel. any ideas? Thanks

As always, there are many possibilities. One is that the fuel pump is failing or the fuel filter needs changing. It is necessary to check the pressure at the fuel rail. We do not know your circumstances as regards mechanical experience or if you have a local shop that does your repairs and maintenance.

 

I would start with changing the fuel filter- cheap and easy.
