99 xj8 computer reset
So I was getting a code I could not clear with the code reader and I took the car to a local mechanic who supposedly had previously worked on several Jaguars. After a month he told me he could do nothing. When I started the car it was throwing all sort of errors, traction control fail, stability control fail, etc..... Needless to say after an argument he assured me those codes were on when he got it. It has been a few weeks and I am unable to clear the codes. Besides disconnecting the battery is there a factory reset on the computer??? What should I do next?

first i would check battery capacity, bad battery performance causes various fault codes. as i experienced recently the jag diagnostic system is a bit special, so i recommend to see an offical dealer or a shop that has acces to the original jag diagnostic tool to clear all the fault codes.

Just a thought,
Some recommend disconnecting the battery leads and holding them together (just the pos and neg ends) for a minute.
Supposed to negate any residual power in the system. I have tried this with no adverse side affects/no actual benefits either from what I could see apart from losing the failsafe only to have reappear later. Then able to track that code.
Rightly or wrongly this advise came from a Jag mechanic.
Are you saying your OB11 reads the codes but will not clear them to see if they reappear?

No Generic code scanner/reader is going to clear 'C' codes (CHASSIS) for the ABS/TRAC faults.
Generic code readers are for 'P' codes (POWERTRAIN).
The type of diagnostic equipment needed to diagnose your fault has been beaten-to-death on this and other forums.
You need to search for diagnosing chassis codes (or body codes etc.)
WDS, IDS, Autologic, AutoEnginuity etc.
