99 xjr hood passenger catch doesnt release
:icon_couchhide:
My hood is stuck I have 99xjr and only the catch on the driver side opens the passenger side seems to be stuck I am one step away from the crowbar tool plz help thank! :icon_doh: |
Did you try asking someone to press down in that area as you hit the release?
|
From your previous post, from inside the car have you tried to pull the release cables by some other means than just the release handle. ie. pull the release so that the drivers side disengages, then detach the cables from the handle, attached a set of mole/vice grips to the passenger cable and PULL hard, whilst someone else jiggles the bonnet by hand.
If you have any movement at all on this side of the bonnet, can you feed a straw to the mechanism and give it a good soak with WD40? |
And if none of that works, look at a sample car to find the spot, then drill a 1" hole with a hole saw in the inner wheel well at the right location and use a long screwdriver to operate the latch. If you have no sample, I can send you pictures. And for gosh sakes, don't fret a small hole in the sheet metal, the car is ten years old and you can put tape or a rubber body plug in to fill it. Pry it and you will have a major repair to deal with.

NONE OF IT WORKED PLS SEND ME PICTURES ON HOW AND WHERE TO DRILL ARE YOU SAYING A ONE INCH HOLE WILL CAUSE DAMAGE IN TIME? ILL JUST PUT SILICONE ADHESIVE THAT DEFIANTLY SHOULD SOLVE THAT PROBLEM OF THE PLUGGING .
btw the bonnet JUST STOP WORKING I KNOW CARS ITS GOTTA BE THE CABLE I MEAN IVE HAD TWO PEOPLE TRY AND LIFT IT AND NOTHING...firmly shut:icon_no: |

OK ALL YOU NEED IS A flat head screwdriver and PLIERS.
first you will need to remove the inner liner use the pliers to pop out the pins, now the picture I have of the side of the car i have showing is where your aiming at.once you remove the liner the next set of pictures is once your under the fender....i didnt remove the wheel I just turn the steering wheel all the way to the right.."trust me its easy" now where I have circled you need to pry the putty and sheet metal it will open just take your time open with a screwdriver you need to open the gap so you can have enough leverage to reach in and pop the latch.. now to pop the latch you will need to pop it by unlocking by making the latch go towards the rear of the car (if you use a hanger youll find exactly where the spring is i found it easer to fish around that way rather than busting up my hands):icon_shrug: once you find the spring you are there..now use the flat head and to pop the latch like i described it before it will take a few times but you will get.. after you do it once you will do it every time its that easy. replace cables and your golden!:icon_playing: |

techiom - give it a little time and try again. You've just registered, and it takes some time to enable all priveleges.
