Default Aerial/ (radio antenne)

Over the summer I had some issues with the aerial not fully retracting after turning the radio off, so I took apart the motor, cleaned out all of the old dried up grease and applied new grease. It works just fine when it is warm, but lately I have had a few issues with it working when it's cold. It will retract all but the last 4 or so inches. This only happens when it is exceptionally cold (15-20 degrees Fahrenheit). But the biggest issue I have is when it is snowing... It does not fully retract when it's snowing and I turn it off... I believe this could be an issue with ice accumulation on it perhaps? Has anyone else ever had this issue?

The grease that I used works just fine in all weather conditions... But if anyone has ever had this happen to them, or if anyone has any ideas on how to resolve this, that'd be most helpful. I really do not like having the aerial up when I am not using the radio.

Also, if anyone has any suggestions for an aerial that is hidden (I.e wont have to use the main on that came factory) that would also be a route I'd be interested in.

Thanks in advance!

You may need to buy a new antenna -- runs about 15 bucks but comes with a new line that is less brittle from age: takes about fifteen minutes to install; loads of threads including an excellent RobertDIY YouTube video.

Would it just be replacing the antenna itself or would it be the whole assembly-- motor and all?
