Castrol Engine Oil - Which product ?
I have been trying to work out which oil my main dealer would have been putting in my car. Since I am going to do this myself now.
On my recent invoices the engine oil has been listed as Castrol Professional 5W30 at a price of £52 for 6.5ltr.
I found this Castrol/Jaguar chart http://partsforjaguar.co.uk/download...arOilChart.pdf
This suggest that Castrol SLX Professional LongTec is recommend.
Searching the internet for this I found this supplier on ebay which looks like the right one 5 Litre....Castrol Edge Professional A5 5w-30 Jaguar, Land Rover (Replaces SLX ) | eBay
Is anyone else using this oil ? Is there anydifference between this and other Castrol Edge products ?
I just found this well priced non-professional product, could I use this ? http://direct.asda.com/Castrol-Edge-...efault,pd.html

You can find a lot of threads and a lot of differing opinions about oil on this forum.
The general consensus seems to be that it really doesn't matter what brand/type of high quality oil you use, as long as you change it at the recommended service interval.
The last one you mentioned, Castrol Edge, is their synthetic oil. I use it and change it at 3K, though it can go as long as 10K, IIRC. That makes me feel warm and fuzzy.
I think you will find more varying degrees of quality in oil filters than oil. Some have built in check valve that helps get the oil going quicker at start up, a time when most agree that the most engine wear occurs. Use a factory filter or the equivalent and you should be OK.
