Electrical Problem HELP!!!
 
I know that it is not uncommon to have an electrical problem with a Jaguar, but this one has seemed to stump every shop i have taken it too.

So here it is...

Drove the car to work in the morning (everything working fine), came out after work and went to unlock the car using the FOB, and nothing. Unlocked the car using the key, and proceeded to start the car. The car started fine, but there was a message in the window that said ELECTRICAL FAULT. The car would not shift out of park and i had it towed to my local shop. After a through inspection, and yes the brake switch was checked, I was told that it was most likely the BCM. Is this true? The systems that seem to be effected are: Shift interlock, Brake lights (not including the center brake light), security system and door locks, remote entry/lock/unlock and also the battery discharged rapidly with in a day or so and would not take a charge. I have been searching the internet trying to find some kind of answer. If anyone can help please let me know. Thanks so much.

Badgerow, first off, welcome to the forums. As you will find out, there are some very knowledgeable guys here. BUt, we also ask that you make a stop by the "New Member" section to introduce yourself. Call it JagForum Courtesy. It wil be well worth your while.

Now, on to your problem. From what you describe, it most likely is the body control module that is causing all of your problems. The easy check that you can do is to lift the negative battery cable and install a multimeter in line with the cable (make sure the multimeter can handle up to 10 amps). Now, look at the current draw through the multimeter. Then, disconnect the body control module and see if there is a significant drop in current (should drop to somewhere under 0.040 amps (40 milliamps). If this is the case, the problem has been confirmed.

HOpefully one of the XJ guys will come by and see this. I am running without my diagrams right now, so, I am going off of memory for your car. You may find that posting this in the XJ forum will net some more specific information that you are after.

So, look around, see what you can find in the way of information about your car, and enjoy a cup of Joe. I think you will find this place very interesting and full of knowledge for you to enjoy.
