Fuel pump replacement option.

After doing quite a bit of research on how to replace the fuel pump, I dove into the job on my 2002 XJ8. The whole problem with this job is dealing with the fuel lines that come out of the bottom of the tank. They are very difficult to reach. I decided to try leaving the fuel lines attached and leaning the tank forward just enough to get the pump out. I read that several people have done this successfully. Unfortunately, I broke one of the fuel lines. Then it occurred to me that all of this fiddling could be a waste of time. Simply cut the rubber part of the lines and pull the tank. Remove all of the plastic nonsense on the lines and slip a length of rubber fuel injection hose over the steel lines and secure with a hose clamp. After the tank is back in, secure the other ends of the new hoses to the other steel lines by the filter and the return under the car. Done. Very quick and cheap. If you are worried about the hose clamps, slip the rubber fuel hose on the steel lines a bit farther and put two clamps. I'm talking about the worm gear type of hose clamps.

This seems almost too good to be true, but I have no leaks and no problems so far. Is there anything wrong with this?

Hey, it sounds good to me, I'm dreading a fuel pump failure on my 2001 VDP.
