Furniture Clinic leather restorer/dye

Hi, has anyone with trim code AGD (oatmeal) ordered the furniture clinic products for leather restoration if so what colour did you choose? the choices are beige, tan, cream. based on their jaguar colour samples on their website i'm thinking cream more closesly matches my interior colour that beige which is considerably darker. just wondering.

That is very interesting. I ordered Oatmeal from Leather Magic, it is darker than my interior, just slightly. Thought all Oatmeal was the same, but after your post, wondering if there are lighter versions I can get from them. There answer to me was send in a sample of the leather and they would match it. Seems like a lot of trouble for me, perhaps I should gone with your company instead. I will look into it. Hard to find a piece of leather to send in for color match.

My experience with Leatherique is that their stock Jaguar colors are very close and they also offer exact matching to a small sample clipped from the underside of a seat cushion. Their website is primitive, but I've always found them to be very helpful on the phone. I believe they have a sales agent in Canada.

Cheers,

Don

yeah my interior definitely has some bits that match the oatmeal as found on various sites, such as the dash pad. its darker than my seats whcih i would describe as cream. i hear what you're saying about the hassle of sending a company a sample but might have to be done. I sent a note to the furniture clinic but haven't heard back.

I spoke with Leather Magic, they said send in any plastic piece as a sample then indicate it is for leather. They will make the adjustments...very happy with their response.

wcourt3010,

I was at a leather restoration seminar with Furniture Clinic a few weeks ago. They can definitely provide Jaguar AGD Oatmeal. Don't buy Cream or any other named colour. It WILL be a different shade!

Good luck

Paul

I've restored a few leather car interiors, and just finished a leather sofa at home.

I've used products from Leatherique, and Color Plus. The quality of the products themselves seems very similar.

What makes far more difference is preparation. This is absolutely essential to a good result. The leather must be clean, dry, and wet sanded to get a good key. I once skimped on the prep, and large patches of the finish came off. It would be easy to blame this on the product, but that would be wrong.

As far as application goes, I found that a rubbed finish is the best. Just dip a cloth into the dye, and rub it into the leather. Repeat for a few coats. You can also brush the first couple of coats on, and rub the last. The problem with brushing is that I could not get a finish without slight variations in gloss. Just rubbing one last coat over the brushed, looks pretty good.

The dye you buy should be either produced to match their sample of AGD, or even better, matched to your sample. That's what I did with the sofa.
