Go on, admit it, your Jaguar has a name…

It's okay, you are among friends.
I'm willing to bet that most of us have given our Jaguars a name. I'm also willing to bet that most of them are pretty silly. I know mine is. So, I will be the 1st to share… Because I drive an X308 manufactured in the year 2000 she became known as "Millie the Millennium Jaguar" or, just Millie for short. Don't let me down now, let's be having them. WS |
Have owned 4 and currently have 2. None have had a name.
|
Both of mine have names. One is the convertible or green car or XK8 and the other is the sedan or silver car or XJ6.
|
All my vehicles have ended up with names, including the ones I've been allocated in past employment.
My Triumph is called Christine. My current Jaguar hasn't got a name yet, I've not decided on one yet. The last XJ was called Felix as in Felix the Cat. |
Sometimes mine get temp names of the 4 letter variety😉
|
i name all my cars
my current XFR is Reese because shes dark on the outside and peanut butter colored on the inside |
Not really, they go by VANDEN PLAS and XJ-S.
|
I know I'm going to get torched for this BUT I've always associated naming cars as a girl thing. (ducking, dodging)
|
Love it!
|
I haven't named any of my cars ever but my wife named her 00' XJ 'Kitty' and she named my 98' XJ 'Bob'. Stupid cat names.... She asks about which car we're taking sometimes and I say
'the 98' and she says, 'Oh? We're taking Bob?' and I just look at her and she just snickers. |
Recently mine has been called "You ***tard".

I actually asked this question way back in 2010, I found it when I was looking for another thread I started years ago. https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...r-xj8-r-36116/
|
My XJ8 is called Rusty... For obvious reasons. My XJ-S is the Iron Lady for being stubborn and durable...
|
I don't really have creative names for my vehicles:
XKR - Convertible XJR - Jaguar sedan A8L - The Big Audi 98 A4 - The Black Audi 97 A4 - The Little Audi Honda CB750 - The 750 GSXR1100 - The sportbike Honda ST90 - Honda 90 Less about personalization, more about differentiating owning several vehicles from the same brand (and in the Jaguars case, the same color). |
I do call my brg XJR "Winston". Don't know why but I felt like the cat should be male.
However many of my friends can't remember the name and end up with Wilson, Whistler etc etc ;-) |
Her name is "Lizzie", she is named after Elizabeth Taylor. Both big divas ;-)

And what a handsome beast Jeremy is!
I have my own XJ 84.0 L long wheelbase that could pass as his twin sister, even though she wouldn't be quite as well appointed inside as your own Sovereign variant. Thanks very much for sharing. I don't know if you caught my earlier post to the forum positing that the X308 is the pick of the Jaguar XJ litter but, I think any doubts that may have remained after my article would be easily dispelled by looking at your example. As we say in Ireland "It's a credit to you". My next automotive writing piece will be an attempt to examine how such deep emotional connections can be established between owners of Jaguars and their cars, in a way that doesn't seem to happen with other marques. So, my question about naming our vehicles was really a research tool to see just how many of us are sentimental enough about the cars we own which leads us to personify them, and make them truly part of our families. I appreciate your reply. It is food from my research. Thanks again WS |

I appreciate your reply. It is food from my research. Thanks again WS I definitely agree with your sentiments regards the X300-308 models. I consider the 308 variant to be the pinnacle of the 'old world' style of Jaguar saloons and pays the closest homage to William Lyons original Ser.1 XJ6. As much as i do so like the new X351 XJ saloons for the sublime styling and engineering, they still do not posess that certain 'presence' held by an X308. I have been involved with Jaguars for 39 years on and off and have named all our cars. My car was a one owner when I bought it with full and detailed service records and probably had an advantage being an ex company car where no expense was spared in servicing and parts replacement. In my ten years tenure-ship I have continued to keep JJ in the style for which he was created and hopefully will soldier on for a number of years yet. I must say that lately a certain seductive Italian in the shape of a Maserati Quattroporte Sport GTS has been turning my head.....oh such temptation! ;o)=) |
