Help needed 2003 XJ8 Alarm goes off when door unlocked

The car alarm goes off when I unlock the door using the pull up unlock. There is also the low battery sound when I unlock and open the door using just the handle. It works perfectly if I unlock the door using the key fob. All of these happen after the car is locked in anyway (automatic driving lock, press lock on fob, push down lock on drivers door. This only happens with the driver's door. I do not know if this is related to this problem, but also the turn signals are silent( my father claims that this was a seting he had to change when putting a new battery in to make them have sound again, but can not remember how). I have charged the battery and the problem still occurs.

Hi FunGi,

Welcome to the Jaguar Forums! It's great to have you with us.

From your description, it sounds as though your 2003 XJ8 is an X308 rather than an X350 (which do not have "pull up locks"), so I am moving your post from the forum for the X350 to the forum for the X308, which is the Jaguar factory project code for your car.

I think we have some security system experts who will hopefully come along. The only things I can think of on your locking issue is a possible malfunction with the switch inside the driver's door. If your doors had lost their synchronization, they wouldn't work normally with the fob.

Which battery did you replace - the key fob battery or the vehicle's 12 volt battery?

Regarding the turn signal sound, I don't recall whether that can be programmed on or off, but the sound comes from the steering column speaker, which is known to fail with age. On one car I found that one of the wire leads to the speaker had been pulled off its solder joint. Here's the parts diagram showing the speaker, part 6:

The speaker is inside the steering column cowl on the right side, ahead of the ignition switch. If I recall correctly, the speaker is about 2 inches in diameter and has an odd impedance (60 ohms or so). An 8 ohm or 16 ohm speaker will work, but at reduced volume.

Cheers,

Don
