Hood Release Problem
Greetings! I was fortunate to have acquired a 1999 XJ8 with 84K miles. I have been very pleased with the vehicle until a recent (hopefully minor) problem. When I attempt to open the hood, only the latch on the driver's side unlatches and I am unable to open it. I presume it may be a busted cable, but I will defer the diagnosis to more knowledgeable Jag owners in the Forum. Any ideas on the cause of this problem and how to remedy it will be greatly appreciated.

dude1579,
I've moved your question from General Tech Help to X308 forum. Members here with the same model will be able to help. Graham |
The procedure involves either making a hole in the wheel well or loosening the latches. Search forum for pictures and procedure for either side. If you cannot find it, check back.
If you decide to try the wheelwell hole method without the pictures, be aware that there are some major power cables there you might have an unpleasant encounter with! |
if your brave put masking tape[3 layers] between hood and fender of stuck side.then remove grille.then remove 6 bolts of the hood hinge to radiator cowel, lift hood up enough to get cresent wrench on stuck latch.use two people.it wont be easy...steve
