I just replaced the knock sensors on my 1999 VDP using the less expensive units
that came from WELLS pn:SU7012 via AutoZone. $64 for 2units including shipping.
They work just fine. The only glitch was removing the right-hand unit. I had to
file down some of the rib on the fuel injector housing that was blocking the
removal of the knock sensor.

This is sweet news. I just ordered a set for my 99 Jag.

I used a 13mm long socket to remove the nut holding the sensor. I then used
needle nose pliers to pull the cable from the cooling tower connection to the
sensor location. I then formed a 10" -"L" bracket to pull the sensor off the
bolt post. I found that I could use a retrieval magnet to pull the sensor up
once it was loosened and the signal wire was positioned for removal.
The driver (U.S.) side sensor was very easy to remove. The passenger side (U.S.)
required filing down the fuel injector rib in order to remove the sensor.
The magnet was easy to use to place the sensor on the bolt post.
Thread the sensor cable to the cooling tower connector first and then place it
on the bolt post using the magnet. I used a piece of paper to hold the nut
in the 13mm socket when securing the sensor.

The passenger side sensor cable was pretty brittle and had some wear spots.
This was the one reported as a low signal by the OBD-II.
The driver side cable looked fairly new. But, I replaced both anyway.

P O R - Press On Regardless

1. both knock sensors can be replaced easily without removing the intake. the greatest issue seems to be fishing the wires forward to the thermostat underneath the manifold.
2. lot of knock sensors develop cracks (visible after removal) and fail, throwing a code.
3. the knock sensors are extremely simple devices . For jaguar they measure 200 k ohms across the pins. They are made by Denso. Denso will not help you by giving specifications all they will say is that they make these for different manufacturers .
As it turns out the bolt ons are exactly the same for different cars / motors the only difference the plug at the end.
You can find bolt on sensors for as little as $ 9. each if u are willing to adapt the wire. you can use the plug from the old ones and just splice them in.
The one thing to look for is the resistance there is some variation but its not hard to find units that are close to 200kohm. so paying $ 123 or even $ 50 each is not necessary at all.
Go to the salvage yard with an ohm meter and you will succeed or buy cheap densos for a japanese car or lincoln ls , with smilar resistance.
