Default HUH? Spark Plug Mystery. Look at these 2 sites. ???

Sounds like a simple enough task, right? Meaning, to pick spark plugs for a car.

But I'm on 2 different sites looking at the same exact plugs and on one site (Amazon.com) it says the plugs are right for a 01 VDP... and the other site (Advance Auto Parts) says they are WRONG for the 01 VDP. SEE SCREEN SHOTS, ATTACHED. What the hell?

So, if anyone can suggest plugs that they KNOW fits and are good for my car, please let me know.

Thanks so much...

SirJag

That's easy, speak to your local dealer give the parts guy the last 6 digits of your VIN and they'll give you the info, then there's no doubt.

Hi SirJag
I called autoparts warehouse and talked with the parts help line. After I gave them the weblink to the NGK website page for the 5464 spark plug, they said they would correct the product fit information on the autoparts warehouse webpage.

They tried to tell me that the NGK spark plug for the 1999 - 2009 would fit our 2001 model (IFR5N10 NGK - their part# W0133-1631727 at $12.95 each).

thmotorsport.com website shows the NGK IFR5N10 for XJ8 model years 2003 - 2007 4.2L V8

It is too late to call Advance Auto Parts today (10:55 pm EST), will call them tomorrow.

The 2001 owner's manual specifies:

Spark plugs (unleaded fuel):

N/A NGK PFR5G-11E
0.04 - 0.043 inch (1.0 - 1.1 mm)
S/C NGK PFR5G-11E
0.04 - 0.043 inch (1.0 - 1.1 mm)

Spark plugs (leaded fuel):
N/A NGK BKR5E-11
0.04 inch (1.0 mm)
S/C NGK BKR5E-11
0.04 inch (1.0 mm)

Just got an email from Advanced Auto Parts who said:

After checking your order and the part number you ordered, these do not show to fit your vehicle. According to NGK and their catalog, they did not start producing a spark plug for the Vanden Plas until 2003. The spark plugs that were purchased, were listed for a 2003 Vanden Plas 4.0L non supercharged.

They also offered to send replacements, free. Impressive service. Most other companies, I think, would say, "Too late... you bought them a year ago!!!"

So... for anyone following this thread, the NGK Iridium Plug 5464 does NOT fit the 2001 VDP, despite what several websites say.

Hi SirJag
UPDATE - I received an email reply from NGK tecnical that confirms that the NGK 5464 is a suitable replacement plug for 2001 XJ8
Look at post# 21 in the thread: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...baffled-73022/

I disagree with Advance Auto Parts see my response in the other thread (post# 22) Also I opened a new case issue with Advance Auto Parts Content Department about the Product Fit information for the NGK 5464 spark plug - It will take them about another 2 weeks to address the issue:

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...83/#post514378

I really do not belive your misfire issue is the NGK 5464 spark plug. The misfire problem might be oil fouled plugs.

The engine in the Vanden Plas 4.0L is not different than the engine in the XJ8 4.0L.

Here is another NGK spark plug Buyer's Guide on the NGK website - this one is SHOWING APPLICATIONS FOR SPARK PLUGS STOCK NO 5464 / PART NO: BKR5EIX-11

Name: NGK5464UKBuyersGuidepageJagmodels.jpg

Look at the Chart - XJ8 4.0L Upgrade - Model Years Groups it fits 09/97 - 09/98; 09/98 - 03/00; 03/00 - 03/02; XJR 4.0L Upgrade 03/00 - 03/02

Also S-Type 4.0L 10/98 -03/02 and some of the XK8/XKR 4.0L - no sure why the XJ8 3.2L is on the chart for 03/00 - 03/02
