Jaguar XJ8 4.0L valve cover gasket replacement - Video

I replaced the valve cover gaskets on my brother's 2003 Jaguar XJ8. It went pretty smooth other than the darn coolant line falling apart. I put this video together for anyone that needs or would like to see a step by step process.

Great job, that shows everything you need to know for the job. It's the same procedure on XK8's too, maybe a moderator could add these to the sticky video and workshop manual threads.

Thanks for taking the time to do these videos. Great for the first part of the secondary tensioner job to.

Thanks, that coolant line is $54 at our local dealer.

RSpi. Thanks for the video. I did my gaskets the day before the video. Replacing the bolts into the cover prior to reinstall is helpful, would have saved a bit of my time. I used some sealant to hold the gaskets on, the bolts will hold the gasket on without the need for sealant. Thanks again.

Got it running today. It smoked a little more than I expected but it's running good. I think the gas mileage is a little better already.

Well, after 2-1/2 years, the covers are leaking again. Both sides!!!

Is there a better set of seals to get? Do I need to get them from the *******? Victor Reinz, it use to leak less...

the dealer/oem ones are better than the ones from rockauto.

OK, do they sell a full set or do I need to purchase pieces?

In my experience, Victor Reinz is one of the worst. I've put them on S-type V6's & V8's as well as X308's and they would come back leaking soon after. The seals are actually thinner and the bolt seal washers are thicker so to compensated. Stay away from VR!! Last I remembered is that the dealer will only sell you a complete valve cover with bolts and seals fully loaded. $$$$$
