Laundry list...
So Ive owned this car for about a month and a half, just thought I would throw my fun times out there.
So far these are the issues Ive come upon:
-Slightly rough Idle and the engine doesnt feel as good as it did a few weeks ago, like a small loss in power
-Coolant leak
-Entire suspension is shot - struts, tie rods inner and outer, sway bar links/bushings front and rear, control arm bushings, spring seats and insulators, strut mounts, control arm bushings etc, etc, etc
-Transmission throwing codes
-Steering wheel vibrating
-Wheel Bearings
-An odd feeling when driving, almost like the feel of a power steering pump thats low on fluid and youre making a tight turn, except it feels like that going in a straight line
-Two chips in the windshield that magically appeared
-possible s/c rebuild
-asc/no traction warning whenever it feels like it
-brakes, they seem to have a fair bit of pad and the rotors arent in bad shape, but they need alot more brake force than I would of thought to stop, so probably a master cylinder, caliper or brake line replacement, maybe all three the way things are going.
-rearview mirror - had this with my Acura also, still a pain in the neck though
All of this and more (Im sure im forgetting something) at just over 100k miles. I did have the covers pulled and it has newer secondary tensioner's, thankfully. But it seems like every other thing is shot, unbelievable really.
Not sure what to make out of this car at this point, my 72 chevelle had original parts that were in better shape than this 12 year old. And to top it all off, my local indy mechanic charges more than the dealership.
Now im not trying to dig at the car, or the make in general. But this is probably the worst car buying experience Ive ever been through, and while I adore the way the car looks, and Im assuming after the suspension if worked out, it will feel nice to drive (atleast it better), I doubt Ill ever buy a Jag again.
Even the interior passenger side window seal on on backwards, with the rubber side towards the window and the felt side on the outside. I mean really, did the QC quy take the day off?
Just venting a bit, cant stop shaking my head at all this. And yes I knew a Jag is more hands on and can be picky, but really this is about ridiculous.

Welcome to the forum!
All of us have been a little intimidated by the XJ/K's at one time or the other. Rest assured the window wiper did not come from the factory like that. If you bought the car as a driver they you have a right to be disappointed with the pre sale inspection. If you got a great price because of the issues now is the time to start enjoying ownership of a beautiful car.
Know how to eat an elephant?
You take a bite, chew it up completely, swallow . . . then you take another bite.
The folks on this forum love our cars and take care of them no matter how ugly they are or how they misbehave. That is part of parenthood.
May I suggest that you add your vehicle info to your signature line. It makes offering suggestions a lot more accurate.
Pick a subject and we are all here to help.
[edit] Sorry, signature did not show up in the 'reply window'.

a 01 XJR with 100K.
How much did you pay for it?
Problem with Jaguars, as with any other luxury cars, is that their depreciation curve is rather steep with the result of putting them, after a few years, in the price range of a used econobox.
Problem is that their maintenance costs are still that of a luxury car and you can't maintain a luxury car on a econobox budget

I appreciate the responses. Im not intimidated by the car, Im just astounded at how much has failed all practically at once.
I paid 8k for it, with a bunch of service records from the second owner, and it drove beautifully at the time of the test drive and for a few weeks. Then problems left and right, I didnt buy it as a project but it seems as its heading in that direction. Ive owned plenty of luxury euro cars and im familiar with their level of maintenance, but this is beyond maintenance, its outright failures. Sure one would expect some bumps with and car of this caliber, but so much at once is nuts. Its not a money issue, sure anyone that has to drop 4-5k in a new purchase is going to be disappointed to some degree, as I am. And im prepared to so so as I am quite fond of it, it is one of the most gorgeous cars on the road.
Ah well, thems the breaks. Now to enjoy the weekend.

I don't believe that long term you will find the car to behave as you have experienced it in the short term. Sure, I have had almost all of the issues you mentioned, but not multiple times, and that's in well over 200k total miles in two cars.
It sounds like you have had some bad luck, and maybe the charm of seeing and driving the car early on just plain wore off. Most of us can understand that too!

Apart from those few things all's good?
Seriously,I found the service history of the XJ8 I own was a pure fiction. First 100 kilometres, new brakes, rotors F&R. New Screen,Headling,F balljoints,re-bush rear end,two mufflers, new tyres (tyres I knew about) plus other bits and pieces. A year later was easier just the usual, new timing chains and tensioners, coolant leaks, failed cruise control, trans service engine service.Failsafe issues etc. All's normal!! You're NOT alone.

Welcome and a big sigh from me - I've heard this many times. I bet you're sat there thinking why did I buy this car? or, why didn't I join this forum before I bought it....
Either way, are you ok to work on cars or do you have to pay someone? I ask as they're relatively easy to work on compared to say an Audi.
Have you an OBD reader, if not buy one and pull the codes. the connector port is under the dash near the trans tunnel. Post what codes you find, a reader is $30+-. Or go to Autozone and have them do it and write down what they find.
It sounds like the last owner drove it like a 4x4 and didn't keep up the maintenance. Sad that you should kop for it but not to worry plenty of focused help from members on here. And they are easy to get 100%
Lastly, Jaguar Ltd would never repeat never let a car leave it's factory with a window seal in the wrong way, that would offend a little chap from Coventry reading that, no more likely there's been a non competent tech stateside thinking about his round bootied woman whilst installing it after a blow-in on the door....like everything with a bit of age, it'll have previous....it's not new or you'd not be on here, more likely in the golf club purring about it....
