The second "first start" was made today. Unfortunately I was not able to be there, but they said: " Sounds pretty good! " . So, the proper AJ26 camshaft timing ring resolved the problem. Bad thing: I have to wait almost two weeks to see the car when come back from holidays. During this time they install lowered springs and stiffer shocks. Then 93/E85 flexfuel Jag is finally back.

The engine two days ago waiting for AJ26 timing ring to the driver side intake cam.

Exciting, that is already a big milestone again, congrats so far!

How can you leave on holiday at this point in time baffles me though...

Awesome build! I'm very much looking forward to the results. We seem to have a lot of crazy fast cars on the forum at the moment so it will be interesting to see how this compares to the modded f types. Why stop at 11.3 when 10s are so close!?

Awesome and can't wait for some results. If the wait is killing me you must be dying to get back behind the wheel!

Got the car back a couple days ago. Now 150miles with the new engine.
Needs a lot of careful adjusting. First oil change will be after 1000 miles. Thena couple steps smaller upper pulley etc.

Oh Oh that KB sounds sweet Other than the first oil change and more tuning, how far out do you think hitting the 1/4 strip is?

A couple small kickdowns from 20mph up to 4000rpm to see AFRs from the wideband gauges and at the end of the second one: "BANG" from the driveline ...very slowly back to garage. "Glonks, glonks" from the rear axle/diff area.....could be "the famous weak pinion" at this time. No exact anylyse done after that. **** happens - again.

Sounds like a 15HU LSD is needed... Don't worry, you'll get past this. I've been thru the whole 'find the next weakest link once the engine is built' routine with my 86' Grand National back when I was drag racing in the early 2000's. Have you done anything to the transmission? I know those are pretty stout but, I'd fit the largest external trans oil cooler I could find now that you have all that extra power. Just my advice from one racer to another.

Been there, done that... my money is on the pinion, mine let go at 20 mph as I was on the brakes!

Yes, the noise comes inside the diff. We lifted the car today....that was bad since we expected that in comes from U-joint. Rear axle was dropped and diff opened last time 2012 when Quaife went in. HU15 is not the first choice at the moment. Needs careful research what's the best option.

Weakness of the HU14 pinion/gear is because of wrong design, size or material - or all together?

Transmission and torque converter are stronger than as stock.

Sorry to hear about the unfortunate update :/ 14hu pinion teeth are notorious for breaking off. My understanding is the 14hu should have never been installed in the higher hp XJR to begin with, the big guns just wanted to get the cars out there asap to sell. 15hu is noisier but pretty rock solid when well maintained and backlash is properly set

Congratulations Sami - Mine is also going - 250Km so far - it is absolutely lethal, I still have a bit more work to tune it.
I have an email from Dan the electronics man - cut and paste a bit for you, he is referring to my 1999 XJR---
--- We are just in the process of finalising the technology that will allow us to remove the standard ECU entirely and run only the Infinity. This will then power the dash entirely on its own along with AC, cruise control etc. No fault codes this way.

Material is weak. I've changed out regular XJ8 (X308) diffs because of stripped out gears.

If the material is weak the needed parts can be custom made from high quality steel and/or use some special treatments like few forum members have done. The first one can be very expensive way if not bigger batch.

Like cryogenic freezing the parts? I've never had any parts done but, I don't think it's astronomical in pricing compared to custom billet parts.

After a lot of research and maybe ten possible combos 15HU with 3.58 was easy decision. Back to the road after 4-5 weeks.
