Need Help ASAP Please. Removed Rear Seats, now Seatbelts won’t Come Back Out.
Please help!
I took my rear seat out this weekend to get the blown 6x9 out of my rear deck. My wife took the kids to school today and is picking them up, but she will be gone tomorrow and I have to take them. I just went to put the rear seat back and the belts won’t pull out of the reels.
The seatbelts are retracted on their reels, and NONE of the 3 rear belts will pull back out. Help! What’s going on, I didn’t see any mention about “Don’t let the belts go all the way back into the reels” when I searched how to do this job.
Thanks,
Mike

Well I managed to get them back out. Not sure why all 3 of them decided to lock up. Perhaps it was because they were on the floor of the backseat and I drove to work and back. Perhaps they got jostled around and the inertia reels thoughts they had been in an accident. I had to hold them upright and knock on them while cajoling them.
I called my local Jag dealer and the service manager wouldn’t even speak to me. “We would have to send a technician out, we can’t diagnose over the phone.” the person who answers the main line told me after talking to him. Gee, thanks. It was obviously not a multiple failure, and they had probably come across this before. Was hoping for some guidance.

When I took my rear seat out, I took the seatbelts off as well because I was going to change them out. When they are out, the belt will not pull out of the reel. It will stay locked in. You need to hold it upright and level for them to come out of the reel. This is a safety feature of ALL seatbelts. If your car goes rolling down a hill and you land upside down, the seatbelt NEEDS to lock up. Of course if it were able to freely come out of the reel when it is in any position other than upright, it wouldn't be very effective now would it?
