Need replacement key for a '98 KJ8
We recently bought a '98 XJ8 V8. Our office was broken into over the 4th of July holiday and they took the Jaguar key and opened the driver door. There's some kind of slow drain on the system, so they couldn't get it cranked. But now we're without a key and the locksmith I contacted said he couldn't do it. Before I make a bunch of useless random calls, I thought I'd check here - what are my options for getting a replacement key?
It is rather pricy, but if there is one nearby, the dealer can produce a key based on the VIN. You just have to show proof of ownership. Once you have a key you can then get any locksmith that can cut a TIBBE key to make additional ones.
The key(s) will need to be configured to the car. 1998 was the first year for the US models to have RFID keys.
The missing original key(s) will no longer start the engine but can be used to open the locks.
