Default New member and New to me jaguar xj8 VDP

Hi everyone.
Newbie here. ..
New to me 2001 xj8 VDP
The car sat for more than 2 years
( I believe much longer )
Anyways I drained out the old old varnish , checked the plugs replaced one coil, fuel filter, battery, oil and filter.Cleaned the MAF,
Still runs rough I suspect a vacuum leak a Big vacuum leak I've sprayed everything I can see and Im not hearing or feeling a difference.
Now I would like to try a smoke test but no clue on the best place to connect to.
Anyone know?
I did do a search not really finding what I need for a smoke test.
Also replaced all the fuel injectors cleaned fuel rail once i seen nice clean fuel started coming out the fuel line...

Thanks everyone...

Jay

This is what was in the tank. Just over 13 gallons.

If you have a severe misfire condition it should have by now lit up the check engine light. Take it to any auto parts store that reads the codes for free. Write them down and post the numbers and we can help. Since it was sitting for awhile some of the codes may be old. Ask that they be cleared and then recheck after a few drives and see which ones return.

Default No on the road yet

Not at home now I don't have the codes in front of me, but the only codes it had was one for idle higher than expected. And one for misfire cylinder 5.
Thanks

I'm home now .
Using the Innova 3100 code reader of pulled code P0507 and I had a P0305 that code is gone now I replaced the ignition coil. On cylinder #5.
Yes check engine light is on and the Reduced engine performance messages is in the display.
Thanks
Jay

Pull out the crankshaft position sensor on the aft of the engine and clean the face of the sensor .. It has a habit from reading of collecting metallic debris interfering with the signal and not showing a code

No, it's near the bottom of the bell housing.

You have to raise the vehicle on a lift, or failing that jacks and jack stands and crawl underneath, to access the rear of the bell housing.
The crank positioning sensor is held by a single bolt.

Car is in the driveway so Jack's and jack stands is it for me....

What about a good location to attach a smoke machine to check for vacuum leaks any one vacuum line better than the other?

Default So far no luck

Hello . So far no change same code idle higher than expected.
I pulled out all the plugs they all looked like there burning even and clean, Today when I started it after a few days she SMOKED for a minute thick white Smoke. Still running rough, checked Crank position sensor metered it out ,bench tested it working as it should.
Not get any codes to Help give some kinda direction on what to test next .
No vacuum leaks plugs and coil all good fuel injectors good fuel good fuel pressure steady at 47psi.

I'm aassuming smoke could be valve stem seals, valves not seating a 100% ( car sat for a few years.)
Or Or Clogged Cats...

Anyone with ideas? ?

Thanks

Jay
