New XJR Owner

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to this forum. It seems like this is the most active Jaguar forum and I've been perusing all of the great info! I got into British cars in the late 70's. Moved into the German cars, then Italian, and a few others. I love cars and I love most of the marquis that produced some nice / fun cars. The different approaches they each have is a nice experience to get to know and understand.

Anyway, as you can see in the picture … I have a 63 MK2 and as of last night a 2001 XJR. I chose the X308 over the X300 & X350 after reading everything I could find and driving all of them.

I got away from the Jag's for a couple of decades or more and didn't know they were making such nice cars as these generations are.

It's good to be back in the seat of a beautiful Jag!

Thanks! Z07Brandon. So, the first 24 hrs. have been fun getting to know this big cat :) and I'm loving it! Compared to BMW's 7 series and Mercedes S class … it's not as roomy inside, but has a much more personalized feeling. I'm not sure if that explains it correctly, but the Jag has a different feel / perspective from the drivers seat that is quite different then the other German marquis. Anyway, it's great to have a nice XJR and it's nice to be here on this forum. I've been reading, reading & reading! :)

In the first two weeks, I've driven just under 2000 miles and it's an awesome car. I've been driving a few cars with big V8's the past few years and when on the road I've always found myself driving way over the speed limit. But, something is very different in the Jag. I find myself in a more relaxed mood … content to cruise at speed limits or maybe just a little faster. I find this very interesting and enjoy the more relaxed mood I'm in when driving the Jaguar.

Anyone else feel the same when they are driving their Jags vs other cars?

I agree! I even play different music in my Jag vs. the Vette. 60's Motown and Jazz in the Jag, Rock n Roll in the Vett.

LOL, Yep! I forgot to mention that also. I have found myself listening to music that I haven't listened to in 30 years! :)

Even worse, I listen to tapes from time to time :) ...
Digged the ones remaining out of a dusty box, and put them in the car.
Car even has slots for them in the center cubby.

Beautiful color, JagSter!

@JagSter63 - You can thank Geoff Lawson - the Jaguar Design Director at Brown's Lane for such a competent car, he and his team spent thousands of hours developing the ride so we could all feel 'as refreshed exiting the car, as when you entered it' - a little dig at the German cars being produced at the time, the M5 BMW in comparison drove like an ironing board.

Sean B … I would like to personally thank Geoff Lawson if I could :) The thousands of hours they spent paid off. Most of my life I was focused on smaller engaging cars that ran well and handled extremely well. Real driving machines with a few odd models thrown into the mix for fun. As I've gotten older, I shifted towards more luxury with big V8's for long fine road trips. So, I've ended up with a lot of Mercedes & BMW's. S class, E class, 7 series, etc. and thinking these were some of the best cars you could get. Completely ignoring Jaguar for more than 20 years.

Now, after driving the XJR for a few weeks … I'm feeling a little dazed and confused :) because of the feeling that I've been missing out on the special ride and feel of the Jaguar X308 cars. I share my time between Southern California & Northern California. All of my close friends in SoCal immediately loved the Jag when they laid there eyes on it. My close friends in NorCal all own Mercedes and kind of thumbed their noses at it when they first laid their eyes on it while throwing out the typical "going to be in the shop" comments. A week later they wanted to take a closer look and ride in it. They were astonished at how nice it was and I educated them on how dependable they can be once certain things were addressed and maintained. They all have had trouble with their new Mercedes and they have come around to thinking about getting one of these nice Jags! LOL

Here are some of my German cars up in NorCal. Now I prefer to drive the XJR and these cars will be sitting for sometime I'm thinking.

After 5 weeks of ownership ... I enjoy this Jaguar more than any Mercedes or BMW that I have.
