Perplexed. … Car won’t start. 2000 VDP xj8

Perplexed. … Car won’t start.
Problem only recently began. Appears to be flooding.
If I block open the air intake butterfly , it will attempt to start using the additional air flow, but again stalls and will not start in normal fashion.
My wife drove it short distance, and car refused to start, after being parked an hour.
New Bosch battery. New fuel pump & fuel filter (2 mo ago)

ANY IDEAS????

Here are fault codes, read with … iCarsoft Multi-system scanner i930 :
Engine control module (ECM): P1260 security input / theft detected
Instrument Pack module: B1201= fuel sender – circuit open, U1261=SCP (-) circuit failure
Driver door module: B1697=”fault code not in database”, =B1234 mirror switch invalid code,= U1135 Ignition status not obtained
Driver seat module: U1135 Ignition status not obtained / ECU communication fault
Passenger door module: B2322 Mirror drive out of range / up/down , and LF/RT
Passenger seat module: B1961 =seat drive / backrest recline out of range.
Body Processor Module: U1041= SCP vehicle speed signal / invalid or missing data, U2012= communication bus error / non SCP, B1595= ignition switch / invalid code
Security locking module: U1135 Ignition status not obtained, P0100= MAF circuit / MAF sensor, P20e2= “code fault not in database”

HISTORY of 2000 Vandenplas : 7 years ago, bought this low miles VDP from friend, who purchased it at insurance auction. (38,000 orig mi)

Thank you in advance, for your assistance....

Engine control module (ECM): P1260 security input / theft detected

Clear the DTC and try another key.

Only have one key... and 1 remote key fob.

LAjag 12-16-2017 03:06 PM

Replacement key is a dealer only item, I imagine
Yes or No?

LAjag 12-16-2017 03:39 PM

Only have one key and one remote fob.. No other keys.

LAjag 12-16-2017 03:43 PM

To isolate problem, I have tried "clicking" remote to lock car... then clicking again "unlock" car security system, before attempting to start car.
Car gets spark. Acts as if "flooding" is the primary problem.
Thanks, motorcarman

motorcarman 12-16-2017 04:20 PM

If it is cranking and getting spark, then it is NOT the P1260 Key/KTM problem.
You are living dangerously only having ONE KEY!!!!

Put your finger on the fuel pump relay and feel for a 3 - 5 second commanded on for the initial fuel prime then back to off . Relay clicks back on ( 3rd click ) after the ECU sees engine rotation . Safety design . See page 36 , trunk relays

Can try a " Hard Reset " of the ECU's after clearing codes at the parts store

Sounds like bore wash could be a possible cause.

Robman25 12-16-2017 06:13 PM

Could be bore wash but OP said that the wife drove for a short distance, I wonder if flooring the accelerator pedal might be worth a try?

X308 Seats are 2 wire hall effect sensors different then the X300 3 wire potentiometers , Editing

If she drove for a very short distance it could be bore wash. First check the schraeder valve for fuel pressure. If yes, try flooring it and turn over for a few 10 sec bursts to get oil on cylinder walls, then back off to part throttle and see if it starts.

Question to all:

Engine wash not likely cause --- wife had been driving Jag, prior to being parked on level ground for 1 hr.
Sunny day when parked, dry day. no dampness.

QUESTION TO ALL:
Would "blocking open" intake butterfly cause ECM or PCM to change settings?
Don't believe so. However, I would like to hear from Jag experts or experienced mechanics.

In testing to determine if engine was "flooding", I cranked engine with butterfly blocked open (plastic screwdriver handle) in intake throttle unit. to maximize air inflow.
Engine immediately "kicked over" & tried to start, but would not continue.

LAjag 12-16-2017 07:54 PM

Good idea ...except only have one key.
Dealer item I imagine

Sean B 12-17-2017 08:18 AM

Jamming an electronic throttle body open with a screwdriver? I'd suggest you don't do any more of that as they have very sensitive sensors attached that are connected to the ECM via the Can Bus and will not run the car if it senses a fault by reading the position of the throttle plate...

petrol wash....100% have you even looked at the plugs??

RJ237 12-17-2017 07:38 PM

Bore wash is flooding due to shutting off cold engine, has nothing to do with water.

JagV8 12-18-2017 01:51 AM

Doesn't have to be flooding so much as lack of compression due to fuel washing oil away, but overall same outcome.

RJ237 12-18-2017 06:46 AM

I didn't word that very well, you have it right.

Where can I post my problem about 2000 Jaguar Vandenplas not srarting after I ran the engine for only 30 seconds?

Jerry the subject has been covered to death basically 2 things you can try.
First is the flat floor throttle pedal start, as suggested by RJ further up.
Second is pull the plugs on the easiest side and see if they're wet and you smell fuel leave it to gas off, maybe overnight.
Then a teaspoon of engine oil down the bores.
You can try just one side first as some have and it may start, but both sides of the engine should get it up and running again.
