Hi All

My nearside rear wheel bearing has a bit of play and makes a bit of noise too. Reading up on it, there are shims between the bearings and it looks quite a task to set the endfloat up.

is it difficult in reality? Any advise most welcome as always.

Install NEW bearings and use the original spacer/shim setup!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

+1 on Bob's advice.

I've done all the wheel bearings on both of our XJ40s and never had a problem reusing the shims/spacers on the rears with new bearings and never had to mess with endfloat.

Below are links to photos of the rear wheel bearing replacement process on our '93 XJ40, which is very similar to the X308 (the bearings and seals are the identical parts with the same Jaguar/SKF/Timken part numbers):
