Reverse Sensor Fault
 

My reverse parking sensor is delivering the 6-second fault tone when I engage reverse. All four sensors have been tested and are all working properly. I have had this problem checked by more than one service and all concurred that the problem is not a bad sensor. One dealership wanted me to pay them for three hours of diagnostic time at $115 per hour to continue diagnostics in which the tech would begin to "tear apart the car to look for a pinched wire." Do you have a better suggestion?

I really think they are being honest on this one. One of the biggest problems with electrical issues is that when the tech finds it, he fixes it. It may take him 2 or 3 hours to find and less then five to repair the wire. They really just want to confirm some time for trouble shooting. On the other end, if they say 3 hours, don't expect it to be any less than that!

I know it makes sense, but Ican't help beingskiddishabout JagService shops. I have been taken advantage of very recently on some wheel bearings issues. If I thought there was someone in south Florida who was truly trustworthy and knowledgable in wiring, I would gladly let them fix it.

when there is a solid tone there is a fault code, they should scanned it and retrive a fault code and go from there, if there is no fault code
i have seen on newer body xj, when backing up they hit something
and pushes the sensor in the bumper, when a sensor reads anything
between 12 inches or less, there will be a solid tone.

wrong .on this vehicle the car does not store codes for reverse aid fault.. thats why it can be challenging .. you just got check all your pin out info.. to determine what is wrong... only newer xj and s and x type have code logging ... there is no code section on a older xj 98-03(308) because it is not on the DLC..

Yes--Challenging is a good word. Someone recently suggested that I put my car on a lift and raise it a few inches and then test it. They said my suspension may have relaxed and put my bumper too close to the ground, thereby sendingthe signal that I'm too close to something. Does anyone know how many inches off the ground the sensors are calibrated for?
