Default Steering wheel replacement : How intricate ?

My current steering wheel has some deep rooted stains that refuse to release, I gather the PO whom did the tensioners & transmission didn't wash his hands before exiting & entering the car during the work lol. I mean the stains are in the scratches deep, no removal. I've had it covered with a bit of a garish cover that draws my eye in a way I don't like. Plus I've always been fond of the SW's with the wood accents.

Well I've found one in great shape, same code etc. complete w/ airbag.

How intricate is this job being airbags are involved.

Thanks

Rather simple.

Remove battery terminal and wait about 10 minutes. Put key in ignition, turn wheel 90° to right. Undo the hidden torx screw behind the wheel (feel the hole). Turn the wheel to the left by 180° and do the same.

When both screws are undone, turn the wheel straight again and then just lift the airbag out. Undo both plugs (grey and black) and then put the airbag somewhere safe out of reach.

Undo the center screw, the plugs for the steering wheel controls and remove steering wheel. Careful: don't turn the connector (coil spring) at all, as you can f*ck that up and they aren't cheap.

Refitting goes in the opposite direction, just try to make sure that you get the alignment right.

As Daim says, properly easy, you don't have to remove any of the cowling or anything. The wheel is held onto the column with a 15mm nut, light torque. When refitting ensure the wheels are straight and you get the wheel on the correct splines, nothing more irritating than a cockeyed steering wheel.

Wow, the disrespect for your Jag was real at that shop.

Be sure not to knock any of the switches on the column loose when the wheel is off. The wiper control and turns signs lever are thinly bolted on and protected only by a piece of plastic. If your not careful, your levers will be hanging like Christmas-tree ornaments.

FYI: I have an Oatmeal-color leather wheel that I am selling. $30 plus shipping. PM me if interested.

I'd go with a wood wheel myself as well.

Ok found the half wood wheel on Craigslist the guy wasn't sure of the color code but he sent a leather sample & looks to be a perfect match. The air bag he's selling separate looks a bit haggard. My question, can I transfer my good looking airbag & cover over to the new wheel w/ no issues.

Thanks.
