tensioner fun- a rant

So they've gone out.!,My research into the car indicated they'd been replaced, but I could never get a definitive answer due to ridiculous privacy laws and such. I wanted them to be replaced based on suspicions raised the ticking noise on startup before the warranty with the car expired, but the company refused. So I drove the car to a work conference 4 hours from home with no problems. parked it and it wouldn't start when I went back to it. Had a big run around with my insurance company as my agent told me it could only be towed to a dealer for repairs, the nearest one (according to him) being three and a half hours back towards where I live, min Grand Rapids. Ok great. So I spent a couple hours trying to get someone to tow it to GR and bill the company without me paying up front( a 600 dollar bill) couldn't find anyone, so called the company back and spoke to someone else, who said the wouldn't pay to tow it to GR (thank god I couldn't find anyone), only the nearest place that could fix it, which THEY determined. All of this is happening, of course, on a Friday afternoon. So the car is towed and I ride with a freind to their house to await a ride back home from my parents the next day. On monday, the shop that my insurance company chose calles to tell me it has something to do with the timing and they can't fix it. So I am renting a flat bed car carrier and making the eight hour trip there and back to bring it to my local independent mechanic tomorrow. At least the car was not running when the chain slipped, so hopefully there are no bent valves, ect. Also, my mechanic lets me pay in installments, so I don't have to pay the estimated 800-1500 dollars up front. thanks for reading!
