Timing Chains

Doing a complete job. Replacing timing chains, tensioners and guides. biggest hurdle is the harmonic balance bolt today. But will get it done tomorrow and pass on any suggestions.

Pardon me if my question is either redundant or juvenile. Sadly, I know very little about car mechanics. Is it SOP to replace the water pump when changing the timing chain?

Thanks,
Shawn

It's not a given Shawn...only if it turns out to be bad....which is not all that often.
There is a bit of anallity concerning these water pumps and it is usually down to lack of maintenance in flushing and replacing the proper coolant at the prescribed schedule ;o]

And, the answer to whether you should partially depends on the MY of your car. The early ones had a design problem leading to early failure. So, is your car really a condo of 5 years? If so, which year is the engine?
