Default Transmission dipstick

Today i received my transmission dipstick but when i went to use it, it stuck out about 2 feet
and the end was dry.

Am I doing it wrong?
Is this the wrong dipstick?

The dipstick is a TOOL, NOT a car part.
The tool will check the level on all the cars/trucks that use the gearbox, not just Jaguars.
Refit the dipstick cap when you are done checking and put the tool AWAY.

So when it bottoms out there should be liquid on there?
As I said it was dry when I took it out. Before and after driving the car.

The tool seems to get stuck in a few places along the way to the stop in the pan area.
Keep 'stabbing' the dipstick up and down while turning the handle to get past any turns and tube obstructions.

When I finally get mine to 'bottom' I mark the stick for my cars so I know when I get to the proper measure point.

Isn't there something about checking the level when running & warm? or is that just for the level plug & the dipstick works when cold & off?

I knew once, but after buying the dipstick I've never got around to using it so forgotten the details.

There are HOT and COLD markings on the stick.
Accurate readings are probably HOT but cold can give you a quick level indication.
