Turn Signal Stalk Issues

Turn Signal Stalk Issues
Hoping someone can direct me. I am having the following issue and I have seen similar posts on this subject but I am still a little confused. The problem I am having is the following. When I use the turn signal my dash lights intermittently turn off. I suspect it is a broken wire but I also have been missing the function of auto lights working for a number of years. My best course of action at this point is to replace the Turn Signal Stalk and wiring harness. My questions are the following:
1. To replace lighting/turn signal stalk do I need to remove steering wheel?
2. I have seen where you need to rotate the wheel to right/left.. which I am
assuming is to get access to torx screws.
3. Does Alldata or Jag JTIS have this write-up. (I can't find one on the JTIS CD.
Thank you in advance.

You could have a stalk problem but the early cars did have an issue with the cluster -- after time wires would chafe against the back of the cluster and short out -- maybe one is doing this when the input to the turn signal light is illuminated?
Just a thought ? you would need to pull the cluster -- I do remember reading a posted TSB not long ago.

Auto lights is a dead giveaway, you need to replace stalk/solder the joint.
(No you don't)
*edit*
just gone back through and checked, the wheel does have to come off. There is a clock spring and the stalks under the wheel.
I've posted similar on how to get it to bits elsewhere in the forum, I mentioned you turn the wheel slightly in each direction to get at the torx bolts, so I'm not going into detail here, just to confirm 99% of the time it's the wiring/solder joint needs attention.
Not the cluster.

This is a good old thread. Pointed me to right direction. Headlights and running lights were working yesterday and today all stopped working. Removed the steering wheel and stalk to have access to behind the signal stalk where all the wiring is soldered on. Was able to fix the black wire and the lights now all work. I still have a lone red wire that also broke off but not sure where it's supposed to be solder on. Anyone got any ideas or a picture of the solder joints?

http://www.jagrepair.com/images/Auto.../jagxj1998.pdf.......see page 60 and 56 as the wire colors can be hard to discern
