Default Whining transmission?

while slowly driving in a parking lot (no radio on), I noticed a slight “whining “ that went up and down with my slow speed while looking for a particular store. Not real loud, but there nonetheless.
Im not sure that is normal? Not sure I have noticed that before.
Should I be servicing this tranny? I know it’s a closed system, “lifetime” sealed, or something like that.
2003 XJ8.
Many thanks in advance!

Yes the tranny can & should be serviced, you could have low &/or compromised transmission fluid.

Yes that but if you're having it done by a shop just find one that's well familiar w/ ZF/ BMW transmissions, have them take a look @ your A-Drum & inquire about a Trans-Go pressure regulator upgrade(see link below) it may save you a costly repair going forward.

Oh, definitely. So, I will need all of those things? That sounds expensive. Are you familiar with a fair price to have this done?

My current X308's tranny been rebuilt but my previous LWB I paid $250 @ a small indy shop but that entailed a full tranny service & a Trans-Go valve upgrade install. I can't remember if I supplied the fluid etc. I know I purchased the Trans-go kit myself & brought it in. It's a small fee to prevent a $2,000+ rebuild IMHO.

Agreed. My tranny was rebuilt about two years ago, how often should I be servicing it?

Mine since the rebuild has had a small whine when I use sport mode but it is perfectly fine, I never noticed it before because I never used sport mode prior to rebuild.

Truthfully if you had a rebuild that recently you should be good, but if the whining noise is new, then most definitely have it checked.

Thank you sir, you’ve been a great help (several times before as well!).
I am always in Sport Mode, and I’m not sure that the small whine is new, I just happened to be coasting very slowly in a parking lot with no radio on. That doesn’t happen often, if ever before,
Im thinking I’m good as well, but will have it serviced anyway as a precaution.
I looked up the Trans-Go valve. I may do that as well.
many thanks KC. You are extremely knowledgeable and we are lucky to have you in this forum!

No worries man, I was once a total Jaguar novice & this forum continues to enlighten me. Great group of heads here, I doubt there is a X308 problem that's not solved somewhere w/ a quick search. I still have a ton to learn about these excellent machines !
