X300 or X308 mm

Morning all I have a 98 xjr v8supercharged , now I have checked the vin and it's an original v8 and all that ! BUT it has an jaguar x300 plate in the engine bay , I thought the v8 s are x308 s
I'll put a photo up tomorrow .
Now when I got the exhaust done I noticed the build date of 10/97 so am I right in thinking it could be one of the last x300 with the v8 or are they common ?
Thanks for any advice threads
Geoff

Cheers , that makes sence , I'm still confused as to when the "x308" started as to an x300 with the v8 option , or am I way off , lol

There are some other significant differences, like the interior, the front suspension, and the headlights. How have you determined it is an X-300 tag? I might be a little worried that you have a "revised" serial number plate, or maybe some replacement body parts if it actually is an X-300 plate. Considering the consequences of the wrong plates, I doubt that it could have gotten out of the factory that way.

Are you talking about a black sticker on the inner wing by the shock absorber ( damper ) mounting with about 14 numbers in a list, with E11 in a circle then JAGUAR with a leaper above, then X300 ?
If so my 98 XJR has the same.
I believe it is just a list of type approval numbers, but then again I could be wrong about that.

Does anyone know when the v8 s became x308 and I've seen numbers of 300 xjr produced of 300 or so but how many x300 xjr v8 s/c .
They are not that many hear in New Zealand ! Took me a long time to find one hear . :icon_crackup:

Hi. My December 2000 xj8 has exactly the same plate on the inner front right wing. It seems these models are all based on x300 with updates (internal and external) that became x308 . I am not sure but I think x308 handle came in with '97 year. ('98 in US).

Thanks mate ! I'm starting to get really interested in how many of these we're produced in 1997/8 .
What your saying makes a lot of sence to me ! Thanks

If it's got a straight six it's an X300 (and if it's got a V12 it's strictly speaking an X305 but is reckoned a submodel), if it's got a V8 it's an X308. What is semi-officially known as the X308 is technically an X300 with a different engine, gearbox, front suspension, electrical system, interior and a few minor bits - it's just a convenient way of referring to what became quite a different car.

X300 production ended spring '97, X308 production started autumn '97 for the '98 model year, starting with VIN 812317.
