BW, I'm just up the road in E Orlando...I had Advance Driveline do mine. They're just off N John Young on the left side going N. You will have to go up to the light and do a U-turn at Edgewater. They do a lot of heavy driveshaft work, like for box trucks, which have similar driveshafts as the X308, so I bet they can do the U-joints quite easily also.

 

 

Ford also owned Volvo from 99-10....coincidence?...I think not...lol

 

Volvos of the 80's and until mid 90's (240, 740, 940) used the same UJ as the one we are talking about. By 99, there were no more Volvos with a propshaft, only FWD.

Well, I meant the usual saloons. UJ-s, like bearings, are shared by many cars, trucks, vans, construction machines and what not. The info on UJ-s suitable for our X308-s is as follows (the sizes shown are cap diameter x UJ span, face to face of two opposite caps).

Propshaft:

You will note that GKN have their U968 for JLM823 and U225 for GUJ108 but the dimensions of the GKN U225, U968 and U100 are identical so all can be used.

For those trying to decide which brand to purchase, GKN, GMB and SKF are all known Jaguar OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers). If I recall correctly, GMB is the Japan-based operation of GKN, the U.K.-based company that supplied many Jaguar differentials driveshafts/propshafts, and axles. SKF supplied wheel bearings to Jaguar (and other top-tier customers such as Rolls Royce and the Ferrari Formula One team). We probably can't go wrong with any of the parts you identified.

It looks like these are for '85 XJ6 , or am i blind ?

 

These UJ-s were used on Jaguars starting from Mark 1 (1955) and (officially) up to 1997 (according to a GMB catalogue) meaning including the X300. I said "officially" because after X300, i.e. in the case of the X308, the UJ-s were no more a separate p/n (because they want you to buy the whole $$$$ propshaft). However, the X300 UJ, JLM11718, is not listed as a part number in any of the UJ catalogues I have, only one of the the GMB catalogues states "Jaguars up to 1997". Are X300 UJ-s same as the X308 ones?

"The central universal joint next to the rubber driveshaft mount measures 75mm cap to cap. The cap diameter is 27mm"

I have to make a CORRECTION to the info I posted earlier on the X308 Half Shaft UJ-s. What I showed in my post above for Half Shafts are UJ-s for Jaguars up to 1985, i.e. up to and including XJ6/12 S3. These UJ-s are 30.2 x 106.36.

The correct info for X308 is as follows:

X308 Half-Shaft UJ (30.2 x 92) JLM 1388
Old Jaguar p/n: ----> GKN
11682 ----------------> U220
7152 -----------------> U220
C11682 -------------> U220
Layland:
GUJ112 ------------> U220

The old Jaguar part numbers are not shown on the Barratt's website as superseded by JLM1388 but the UJ-s are identical size. So, the suitable X308 Half Shaft UJ-s are:

SKF..........UJ331
GKN.........U220
Spicer......1350

and, of course, many equivalents from other manufacturers.

 

Here it is a year-and-a-half after the last post and I thought that an update to the center bearing would be useful. I'm in the middle of a project to replace a lot of stuff that hasn't been done since new which was 18 years and 178k+ miles ago; new motor mounts all the way around, fuel injectors cleaned an flow tested, new downpipes with 200-cell cats (had a cat rattle going on), etc. When I got the exhaust pipes off the old cats, I took a look at the driveshaft to see the condition of the center bearing. The picture tells the story:


I went to Power Train's website and the 3080-25 bearing is not listed anymore. I called them to see if there was an updated part number, which there is not; however, the gentleman that I was speaking with said he found "a few" at the Virginia Beach location. So, of course I ordered one along with the GAJ-1 Jurid Couplers. I also ordered a new UJ from SNG Barratt.

So, anyone planning on doing a driveshaft rebuild anytime soon and planning on using these parts should call Power Train's Virginia Beach location to get one of those "few" that are still available.

 

I bought the available X300 centre bearing EBC9040 (for spare, haven't fitted it). It has exactly the same dimensions as the Powertrain's 3080-25. Also bought the spline protective gaiter JLM1543.

I have nothing to add, other than that it helped me tremendously in solving my XK8 bearing problem without buying a complete assembly.

Sorry to bring up an old thread but did you end up installing that center support bearing part #EBC9040? was it correct? I am trying source a center support bearing and Powertrain industries dont seem to be able to help me.

 

Do you mean the centre drive shaft bearing? If so, yes I did. I have a UK contact for supplying one if you need it.
