XJ8 3.2 Fuel rail pressure
Just an update on my car not starting after replacing the fuel pump
it is not the cutoff switch I could only get a push on tire pressure gauge it showed 48psi when turning on ignition for a couple of seconds then dropped to 38psi probably not accurate its only a cheapie I have read learned it is supposed to be 44psi, anyhow at least there is fuel and a great spark as well. so I've removed all spark plugs sure are dirty and a lot of oil around them when I took them out I have attached 3 photos of them but unsure how to convert them :) so I figure let it air out for a few hours its 30degC here, and thought I would put 10ml of oil into each before putting the plugs back https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.jag...57013f94d5.jpg Not a nice colour ( new set required) https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.jag...16ebf66cb7.jpg How does the oil get here https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.jag...a2e93df952.jpg only gauge at auto part shop not sure when I crank again to press the pedal to the floor or don't touch anything? probably try not touching anything any help would be good |
Your fuel pressure is okay, but I would get rid of those autolite plugs and use NGK iridium, but plugs are a personal preference. The oil on the plugs indicates leaking seals, so replace the cam cover gaskets, and don't forget to use new seals for the screws.
As long as the plugs are out, put about a tsp. oil in each cylinder and hit the starter a couple of times with the pedal to the floor to distribute the oil and blow out the excess. Place rags over the plug holes to catch the spray. The engine will smoke when you start it. |
Those spark plugs seem well overdue for replacement. Just to mention two things: the gaps appear too be way too large (at least looking at the pics) and the brown stains at the joint between the ceramic insulator and the metal "hex" mean that the plugs have done a lot of mileage.

yes I thought that the gap looked big compared to other v8's I've had but this is my first Jaguar
thanks, interesting about the brown bit. |
yes I agree pugs look terrible never heard of Autolite B4
I do the gaskets onec he's fired up |
Iv'e been looking on the net for plugs but only get Platinium
pls what is the Iridum plug for xj8 1998 x308 aj26 |
I believe I used BKR5EIX-11
|
I have come across that a few times in my searches but was unsure as to it being for the XK8 4.0 aj27 engine
some other references have been AJ84575 C2A1535 PFR5G11E BKR5EVXA-13 all in all I think to go with the BKR5EIX-11 @ 1.1mm gap Thanks for your time Dutchy |
Now w/ my base 4.0 only having 1 fuel pump the diagram shows 2 relays, are both active w/ the singular pump option ?!
