Xj8 alarm going off when parked

Default Xj8 alarm going off when parked

Hi everyone,

Can anyone shed any light on why my car alarm keeps going off when it is parked. Boot and bonnet are shut as are all the doors. There are new batteries in the fob as well! When I turn the ignition the system check nothing is wrong. Tried locking using the key and it stil went off.

It is raining; any chance rain might be getting onto one of the sensors in the boot?

There is a feature in some Jaguars that allow you to see the 'Last Alarm Activation' in the SLCM.

You will need a diagnostic tool to read ALL the modules to find that. I don't remember if that is available for the X308.

Sounds like one of your door/bonnet/boot switches is faulty and triggering the alarm???

Check the bonnet switch.. mine fell apart when messing with it.. old and brittle plastic..

Thanks for your suggestions, taken it to the garage. Couple of things, they said the battery wasn't fully charged, could that set it off? Some sort of warning maybe?

Also, it is parked outside a block of flats where there are 7 or 8 satellite dishes pointing towards it! Grasping at straws here? Any interference possible?

Battery power is essential on these cars, make sure to have the battery checked for any faults. I had a scenario somewhat similar and it was one that motorcarman stated (my boot).

Hi all,

Quick update, took it to a Jag Dealer who basically fobbed me off and didn't want to know because of the age of the car!

Then took it to a Jag Specialist, though not a dealer, who told me what the problem was straightaway without actually seeing the car and sorted it within 2 minutes!

He said it was the battery sounder, so he disconnected it. 5 minutes in total and wasn't charged.

The dealership spent an hour trying to solve it and charged me over £100 for the privilege for not solving it.

Lesson: do not take your car to a dealership if it is older than 5/10 years old as they are not interested!
