xj8 Replace thermostat only

I have a 2004 xj8. I need to replace the thermostat only. All hoses and the thermostat housing appear to be OK. There is a link to replace the thermostat housing
. I'm hopeful all that's not necessary just to replace the thermostat, flush the system, and new antifreeze. If anyone has a link, please attach. I'm very new here. Inexperienced, but willing and need to learn. Thanks

You can replace the thermostat only by removing the 3 bolts holding the housing that is connected to the lower of the 2 radiator hoses that are connected to the thermostat tower.
My question would be why do you think the thermostat needs replacement? Second question is do you have the plastic tower? If you do then I would recommend changing the entire tower. SNG Baratt sells the replacement aluminum tower and it comes with a new thermostat and all of the seals needed at a pretty reasonable cost.

You would be wise to replace the housing. My 06 at 52K mi had a leaky housing, and I have read of others. It's the same type of plastic used in the earlier model. That Youtube you linked is for the 4.0 engine, don't you have a 4.2?

xj8 Replace thermostat only

Thanks avern1. I like the videos and photos better than the dwgs. I struggle on some of the dwgs that don't show everything nested, and I am intimidated by Jaguar and all the stories you hear. I'll go underneath and see what I can see today. I found a dwg that shows it (attached). I have JTIS and JEPC but I have a registry error message regarding adobe when I try to open some areas. Thanks for your help.https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.jag...7eb0e12a67.jpg

I think this is my dwg.

My mechanic next door read the below listed error messages. The person I purchased it from had the water pump replaced but their mechanic didn't replace the thermostat. When I tried to take it through Marta, it was rejected. I purchased a code reader but have not tried to read it yet. I let the battery get low and now it has a number of faults including the gearbox fault. I've charged the battery. I'm changing the thermostat and flushing it this weekend, then reseting everything and hoping for the best. It's a beautiful car and has been taken care of impeccably by an elderly owner. He broke his hip last year in his mid 80's and now is in a nursing home. I knew his daughter and bought it from her. Incredible to drive it.

Might want to move over to the X350 forum to get advice on your series. This forum is for the older 97 - 03 XJ8s.

Thanks Jim. Trying to figure out how to move it. I know it has something to do with folders. Is there a place that shows you how to move a post or thread?

xj8 Replace thermostat only

Also when looking at similar bolt torques ranging from thermostat housing at 10Nm to charge air coolers at 13Nm the latter is the
highest torque setting of similar bolts that I see going into aluminum on may car

From <https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...torque-169358/>

If torqing the thermostat housing bolts only, what should that number be? Please note it it the double-sided bolts on mine. I'm not sure they need torqing, however, I torqued them at 3.5 as of now. Thanks, streamsaver.
