XJ8 Turns off while engine running Like I killed the switch!?

Hello fellow Jaguar People!!!

I am having a scary issue with my 2001 XJ This has happened twice in one month the first time I was sitting parked and the second I was driving at about 55MPH what happens is with the engine running the engine stops, the instrument cluster goes blank and all gauges fall radio goes off and A/C goes off AS IF I TURNED OFF THE KEY SWITCH because the car is still getting power like the interior lights, locks and such when this happens the only electronics that go off are the ones that go off when you turn the switch off I am trying to explain this the best I can now. after it happens you can turn the switch off and back on and the car will resume power and start without a problem when it did this and I was driving a fast paced beep started to alert me my car was still in Drive like it does when the car is in gear with the switch off I know you guys have heard that beeping before. The the car obviously thought I killed the switch this is why the beeping started? am I correct? I had this happen one time before in my Rolls-Royce turned out the switch itself had failed and was breaking the circuit and acted the same way this one is acting. Please help even though the car restarts I am in fear that soon it will not.:icon_bunny1:

Welcome, your post was difficult to read as it's one very long sentence!

I've tried to make sense of the info, sounds like a fault on the ignition barrel wiring, might be worthwhile removing the steering cowl and inspecting the soldered joints on the plug on the back of the ignition barrel.
