XJ8 Wheel Size Maximum

Sorry for another post, thinking of enhancements to the car, wheels size, these seem to be the max!

4.0i XJR Current Spec. Rim: 10j x 21 ET20 tyres - 285/25ZR21 95Z

Will the XJR fit my XJ8 Ok, and how much space at this size is left between

tyre and suspension strut and tyre and wing arch (fender for our American brothers&sisters)

would 21” 10.5J fit, for the rear ?

What year XJR is that? 255 appears to be the largest tire width on an X308 from the factory, 275's seems doable with some fender rolling and seam cutting. Unless the car is jack up in the air, 285 might be 10mm too much.

XJ8 rear fenderwells can fit larger tires by rolling the wheel arch and cutting away some of the body weld seam that protrudes about 1" into the fender well. I doubt any tire larger than 255 will fit without doing that, unless it sticks out past the fender lip.

Do a forum search, this has been covered in depth before.

285/25R21 has a outside diameter of some 675mm (26.6"), which is in line with other sizes used by Jaguar on the x308.

For the rear, the tire width should fit with the proper offset of the rim, ET20 as you mentioned should be OK.
You will need to remove the rear bump stop, maybe you can use the later X100 one, or cut the old version in half.
It will be very very close to the fender, and depending a bit of the brand of tires, as they are all different.

For the front though, there is noooo way those will fit without damaging the fender and linings.

AND REMEMBER, the x308 (and the x100 2 door) were the last models using 5x120.65mm bolt pattern, wheels from later models don't fit!

Those wheels are the wrong bolt pattern and won't bolt on to an X308

Jagger98 05-26-2019 04:40 PM

I know, I was making the point that 21” would still look good, to me anyway,

just prompted another question, can I fit the later 108 PCD hub and strut to the XJ8.........

I believe these roulette wheels are about as bold as you can get without lifting the car like that X300 pictured above.

You know you will get some flack considering 21" ....
I myself think they are way too big for the x308 design, but tried to answer your questions honestly.
To each there own is what you say there, right?
And no to the above question too, will not fit, totally different design.

Just trolling around, me too i'm wonder what can be used on x308 instead of stock alloys

Just read somewhere on the forum that the XK up to 2007 has the XJ8 bolt pattern, can anyone confirm this, it opens up the choice of wheels that can be used.

ericjansen 05-28-2019 10:02 PM

Well, in stead of just posting, you might want to read the replies as well .... it was mentioned above.
