Unhappy XJR Dashboard lights go out when external lights switched on.

All my interior dashboard lights go out when I switch on the exterior lights. (2001 XJR)

I have had the switch stalk unit replaced that fixed the problem for one day then they went out again next day.

Any ideas??????

It might be the dimmer control on the steering column-it only works when the exterior lights are switched on. Sometimes just repeatedly rotating the control knob back & forth quite quickly can clean it up again...

You can also turn the dimmer switch beyond the click stop to the "over ride" position. Full bright.

Turn the Dimmer Switch anti-clockwise fully (Override position).

Default Dashboard lights

That didn't work.

It is only the instrument lights that go out.

The computer, radio and heater display lights stay on.

Default I just had this problem

Just like your problem. I found that it was just a bad fuse in the box under the seat. Cheap fix!

Do you have a fuse box map for your Jag?

Hope this helps!

Default same problem

I'm having the same problem with my Jag. I took it to get the new stereo installed and ever since then, the dashboard and other interior lights won't turn on unless i have it switched to very bottom setting, and when i use that setting, the headlights are off, and on top of that, the rest of the interior won't light up even when i have it on that setting.

I'm contacting the guy who works on Jags that i know. I'll let you guys know if he is able to fix it/how he fixed it.

Changed the dimmer switch as well, no luck.. still the same

no instruments lights when exterior lights on

It's strange that the intruments lights worked for 1 day after I changed the lighting stalk..
