Just a point the ‘89 Vandenpla is called an XJ40 which is the previous series of XJ6 so this is the incorrect forum.

And when you get to the right forum it is Vanden Plas...named after a famous coach builder.

If I had a dollar for every hillbilly on craigslist selling an x300 or an xj40 that called it a "vanderplus" and said it had a V6, well I probably wouldn't have to look for cars on craigslist.

Hi Andrew,

I have moved your thread from the forum for the X300 to the forum for the XJ40, which is the Jaguar factory project code for your 1989 Vanden Plas. Here you will find knowledgeable owners of similar cars who will be happy to try to help.

You can help us help you by giving us more detail, with each topic separated by a period. A separate paragraph for each issue is even better. I'm not trying to scold you, it's just very difficult to interpret your issues when they are presented with so little detail and in one run-on sentence.

Regarding the oil drain plug, it is on the rear end of the oil pan/sump, part 8 in the diagram below. Don't remove the oil relief valve plug, part 4 in the diagram, which is near the front end of the sump:

Regarding the Circuit 1 and Circuit 2 failures, I can't recall what those mean but they may indicate blown fuses. If you don't have the Driver's Manual (Owner's Manual) to look up the definitions of those messages, used copies are often available on eBay and Amazon.

There isn't a gas cap lever, if the car is centrally unlocked the flap should unlock too.
