Default 1993 jaguar xj6 (The knocking continues) Help!

Hello,
I am new to the forum but a frequent visitor. I have a 1993 jaguar xj6 in pretty much mint condition with only 88k I have recently done a lot of maintenance to it my self. From front to back as follows new cooling fan regulator, and module, new belts, new front shocks, bushings, and breaks. New rear struts, and bushings. New spring top plate, and new sub-frame bushings. I initially started with the rear struts thinking the loud knocking sound coming from the rear of the car on drivers side. (sounds like right above strut in trunk) would go away.
The noise continues even after all of the repairs. I have checked the a-frame bushings and they appear to be fine. There is a control arm im guessing that goes from rear end to the body aprox 12in long with bushings on each end that appear to be weak but i can not figure out what they are called to look up the part or bushings. Any info on this part or the problem that might be making the noise would be great. Thanks Scott

Just be advised that there are a couple of different part numbers depending on VIN. If the last 6 digits of you VIN are within the range mentioned in the above link, then you're OK. On earlier VINS there were a couple of choices. I don't know if the difference is subtle or signififcant.

I just wrote a piece about the top spring mount being a regular source of the knocking you describe but then noticed you said you replaced these items so I'm assuming you put them back together correctly.

While under car push up and down on transmission tail to eliminate the trans mount bush. Sound will seem like it is coming from rear.

Hello
Thanks for the response I would like to read the post about the top plate I did replace it because the bushing was bad and the strut wore a 1/2 in grove into the plate, but maybe I did do something wrong. Men are known to make mistakes.
Thanks

If you had a bad bushing and the strut wore through the top plate then that is definitely where the knocking would have been coming from.

Probably worth double checking that you reassembled the new spring/strut assembly correctly with the bushings and spacer sleeve in their correct positions and the top plate nut secured to the correct torque.
