'88 xj40 - Which Fuel Pump

Hi All,

Just about to fiddle with my boats fuel system, and since I'm playing with flammable liquids, thought I would also replace the fuel pump on my Cat ('88 xj40 external type).

A few weeks ago on a really hot day while towing said boat, my fuel pump overheated and left me stranded by the side of the road for an hour while it cooled down and although the shaguar is running ok since, it's probably time I invested in a new one.

Now, there is a plethora of aftermarket pumps out there and I'm just wondering if anyone has any recommendations on which pump to buy and/or avoid. I'm tossing between a new Beck/Arnley (OEM) or a bosch?

Jagfix,

Highly critical piece of equipment. Don't skimp. Stay away from the below $100 units. I've bought Beck/Arnley equipment before ,and have always returned it. They just seem to be a tad off on specs. I'm done buying the Beck/Arnley brand. If it's me, I'm buying the Bosch or direct from Jaguar:

Fuel Pump and Mounting - Parts for XJ6 (2.9, 3.2, 3.6, 4.0) from (V)500001 to (V)667828 | Jaguar Classic Parts UK

Good luck

Thanks Rob, think I will go with the Bosch. I can get a brand newbie for $105, the postage though from the US to Australia is $65... $170 all up... wish I had shares in USPS! Sure beats $330 if I buy local!!!

What part of teh island you call home.

I use Goss/Bosch/Fuel Miser, and no issues as yet.

Fuel filter renew is mandatory.

Let me know I may have some contacts in your part of OZ to get better pricing.

Hmm...., so you're interested in USPS stock......, ever think about buying a bridge...I got one....cheap too....:)

Just pullin' your leg....kidding. The USPS is close to, if not the, biggest money drains of the US government.....and it always loses, runs a negative budget every year.

Considering your a fellow forum brother, I'm going to advise you not to buy any USPS stock!!! I couldn't live with myself.

Hi Grant,

I'm up on the Northern Rivers, NSW which seems like a million miles from anywhere so I've pretty much learn't all the reputable parts dealers both here in Oz and overseas.

My current filter is barely 3 years old and I wouldn't travel more than 5,000km each year but I've got a spare fuel filter on hand which I'm keeping for when I change out the pump.

I also use Morleys Upper Cylinder Lube regularly in the tank which keeps the system nice and clean.

Rob, I'll take your advice and buy shares in Tata instead! I like the look of the new F-Type... I wonder if they will do a straight swap for my '40!!!!
