Follow up from previous post 'XJ40 no crank'

It's officially dead! :-(
Had 3 Auto electricians out to look at it, all who said it's immobilised and the ECU will need to be re programmed.
Unfortunately I don't have the spare cash to pursue it any further so I think i'll have to break it.
Hopefully i'll get another one (that actually runs this time) because they are an awesome car.

Just to go back to your original No Crank thread, you said that your guy manually jumped the starter relay and got it to crank, did it fire at all, cough or anything?

With it cranking, have you tried a blast of Easy Start (ether) into the air intake (open the airbox and take the filter out first).

Also does your central locking lock/unlock it looks to be on the same relay?

Can you confirm the starter relay part number DBC 10008
4RK 006 788-06. (one of the black boxes under the dash with the BLUE conector block)

Have you tried a different relay from a scrapper?

I can't get down to my spares car at the moment to check on the ECU, but I have the above starter relay in my war chest here (on the desk to be precise), and will happily send it to you if it is all that you need.

Hi Translator.

The engine Turns over when I manually trip the relay but there is no spark.
The central locking is spot on, no problems with that at all.
I was told by the Auto sparky that the ECU would have to be accessed to reset the immobiliser and could be expensive, possibly a main dealer job.
Unless you have any ideas?? :icon_shrug:

Hi redjon, I am going to lock this thread for the time being, because your original 'No Crank/No Start thread is active and it is surely better to try to get you going, rather than gone!

We don't want to dilute the helpful replies.

Don't know much about resetting the immobiliser, could only suggest disconnecting the batt +ve lead and touching it to the batt-ve post.

Check out BRUTAL's suggestion in your No Crank post. Just remember that the Tech's are busy guys.
