94 XJ12 Keyless and Alarm Question
Hi all!
I am getting ready to buy a 1994 Jaguar XJ12. The car comes with only one key. My question is what do I need to do to get the keyless entry remote AND how the heck does the alarm work? Is there a remote for that too? I do know there is an on/off switch for the alarm and thats all. I am a complete newbie to the Jag family so please bare with me! LOL I am use to a typical viper type system where the remote locks the doors and sets the alarm both. BTW, the person I am buying it from only owned it for a short time and never bothered to find any of this out, so that is why I need to know all this before I buy the car. I have searched for keyless remotes and found oriiginals at around 90.00 but on ebay there are some others for like 29.00 but are not the original product...but I still couldn't find anything on the alarm? Thanks Guy's :-) peace out, daddylogan |
If it's anything like any other keyless entry/alarm remote, you'll hit the LOCK button twice to engage the alarm system. Then to disarm, hit the UNLOCK button. However, I don't know how the keyfobs are set up.
If it were me, I'd go ask a Jag dealer. |

Key fob = keyless remote
Congrats , it's one of my fave engines ever built ;) I would say , you go for the originals . You would be amazed at the keyfob's functions as well. If you press it a few times within 5 secs or so your headlamps will be turned on :D |
Thank you for the replies! A couple more questions.
So, I would make sure the alarm switch is on, then press my keyless remote 2 times and it will lock the doors and set the alarm? Second, why was this thread moved??? I posted in the XJ12 section and now it is in a different section (XJ40). Please explain the logic so I understand :-) peace out, daddylogan |
Yep, it will set the alarm and you should see a continuously flashing red light as well
Your thread was moved because you have an XJ40 and V12 (which is quite rare ) and this forum is for the XJ40s , what you earlier posted belong to Series I-II-III |
The XJ12 (I think...please correct me if I'm wrong) was renamed XJ40. Logan...If you look below the XJ6 & XJ12 board, it specifies 1969 through 1987. Your Jag is a 94, which means it belong here (this board says 1988 through 1994).

The Series 3 XJ12 ran through the 1992 model year. This is true for everywhere but the US. ROW began the XJ12 in the XJ40 body style in 1993. The US market did not get them until 1994. Our forums here run with the US market productions (because we Americans think we rule the world) but this has really nothing to do with the real production runs.

Thanks for the info, Ken!! It's always nice learning a little bit more about stuff. :)

Yes...Great info bro! Thanks

Just as a side note, there was no US market XJ12 from 1980 through 1993. The rest of the world had them though. The only V12 offered in the US was the XJS during those years.
