94 XJ40 Sport Boot Lock

:icon_doh:Had a replacement barrel fitted to boot lock as old one had seized up.
All worked fine with key and remote and boot was shut. Alas I think he didn't replace retaining clip on release rod linkage as the button doesn't release boot now. Is there anyway of getting to linkage without taking car apart from inside?

Thanks

Jim

You can't get there from the inside. You have to remove the rear number plate and release the boot latch with a stiff wire or thin rod from the lower left mounting hole with the plate removed. It will be of great benefit if you can look at the latch on another car, so you can see the point you are aiming for: it's a bit of a trial and error procedure.

XJ40 Boot Lock

Many Thanks.
Also received the following info.
****
This is the only solution I have ever found, unless someone knows different, remove the number plate, from the key hole drop a line down, halfway down and about one inch to the right drill a hole throught the boot, with a hooked piece of wire locate the rod that connects the lock mech to the catch, pull to one side and the boot will open, replace lock mech with a known to be good item, repaint and rust proof the hole, refit number plate and no one will know

You'd be surprised how many 40's I've broken with an extra hole in the bootlid!!

Well that whole paragraph is rendered moot by the author's own first sentence: I already told you different.
I have never resorted to drilling boot lids in 27 years of servicing Jaguars, more than a few of which had locked boots. It's your party, you can hack if you want to.

Is there a ring of futility floating around here these days, or is that just noise in my head? Whatever, it ain't a freakin' hole saw.

Thanks for the reply.
Would it be futile to ask if you could direct me to the fuse/fuses that operate the driver and offside rear elec windows, both suddenly ceased to operate, fortunately in closed position. Manual is still in boot until I get it tended to at weekend
