Question '94 xj6, light issues.

1994 xj6. The tail lights and marker lights, both front and rear, both sides, have quit working. The headlights (hi & lo), the turn signals, and brake lights all operate as they should. dash lights are also OK. Fuses check OK for power to them, and the fuses test OK w/ a test light. Any ideas or suggestions? thanks for your input. David.

RegentV12.... Thanks for the reply. I'll check out those relays. The lights have worked properly only one time since I posted the problrm. Oh, and the front parking lights also do not work. Thanks, David.

Hello,

This part should be DBC10009 inside passenger side dash. Very easy to replace. This relay also controls the cigarette lighter lights so if they are also out, this is the culprit.

About $50.00 US if you can find it used. I've heard they can be repaired and are no longer available from dealers.

Cheers,

David

Default Light issues, '94 xj6

Malibudav....

Still haven't solved the light issue as described in the original post. There are supposed to be three relays in the passenger foot well area, but there are none. None behind the rt. kick panel either. By foot well area, I take it to be under the carpet in front of the pass. seat.
I was given a number for a relay, # DBC10009. Do you know if this is correct? I am believing that a relay is at fault, as I can turn on the lights and they work only initially. When turned off, then back on,they do not work. It appears that when the relay cools sufficiently, the lights work (most of the time under those conditions). Any ideas as to where else to look for those relays?
Would production (vin) have anything to do with the location of the relays? The last six of my vin are 706319.
Thanks for any help you can give on this.
I'm also needing a rt. ft. door latch for the '94 xj6 (the part that mounts inside the door shell, and latches to the striker). I've posted a number of times on various forums, and no luck. Your having a '94, you might have more leads on '93-'94 parts than I do here. Most yards here do not go back further than '06-'07 on anything.

Thanks,

David.

Hello David,

I'll take some pics tomorrow and post them of the exact location of that relay on my car. That should help. Its a rather large relay, should be about where a passenger's left knee would be pointing when sitting in the passenger (right) front seat. Remove the large lower panel below where the passenger SRS panel is and it should be right there.

Take a pic of the part you need for the door and I'll help you find one. I have many contacts in the used parts business as I worked in that business for about 3 years (in another life....).

Regards,

David.

Default '94 xj6, light issues

David,

I located the relay!!! Under the knee bolster, pass. side. I tapped it, and the lights started working again. Must be a faulty solder joint or two. I'm going to take it apart for cleaning and inspection.

I'll send you a pic of the door latch assm. I am needing.

Default '94 xj6 light issues, latch

malibudav.....

I removed the relay, and checked for faulty solder joints, looked ok. Cleaned the four contact points, and reinstalled. So far, so good, only time will tell.

I'll attempt to post a picture of the door latch i am needing. Rt. Ft., '94 xj6.

Thanks,

David

Hey David,

Sorry I didn't get back sooner. I'm having trouble seeing what's what in the pics you attached. Did you find what you need? Try to post some clearer pics that give me a little more perspective.

Cheers,

David.

malibudav...... I'll try to post a better pic of the door latch assembly. The camera isn't the best for a close up pic. David.

Good info ! I took a look at the relay now.
I have a -93 Daimler 4.0 with a 666 (number of the beast) serial, 676667
and both tail and front indicators bulbs were out.

And just by knocking a bit on the relay the lights turned on !
Difficult to say if itīs cold solder joints or just harness connector oxidation. I didn't see anything wrong with it. I did some routine resoldering anyway.
Super easy to get at and an easy fix for anyone who have the tail and front indicators mess up. Itīs the one with yellow connctor on the left after removing
the passenger lower footwell dash panel on LHD vehicles. A #2 Phillips screwdriver does it. I added some WD-40 to the connector pins, will not hurt.
5W tail bulbs looked bleak so I replaced with 10W.
